Starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons. (15)

Teen Malcolm (Moore) is a bit of a geek – he’s a good student intent on going to Harvard who lives in a rough LA neighbourhood along with friends Jib (Revolori) and Diggy (Clemons). They’re a likeable, smart bunch with their own dodgy punk band, but things get complicated when hot chick Nakia (Zoe Kravitz) invites Malcolm to a local drug dealer’s party that ends in a drug raid – and Malcolm discovering a stash of MDMA hidden in his school backpack.

A fresh take on coming of age movies, this has a mix of snappy dialogue, great performances and unpredictable moments as Malcolm tries to stay one step ahead of the bad guys. It’s definitely one for older kids (see notes below) and adults who are looking for a funny and fast teen caper.

Star Star Star Star

This movie is aimed at adults and older teens and does have quite a relaxed view when it comes to sex and drugs. There is a discussion about masturbation, and frequent sex references. Characters are also seen with cocaine, MDMA and smoking dope. There is also frequent strong language.
