Based on the platformer video games of the same name, Ratchet & Clank is a slick-looking but dull animated space adventure starring the two title characters – a furry creature named Ratchet and a defective robot named Clank.

Mechanic Ratchet dreams of being a Galactic Ranger but is rejected when they are auditioning new recruits. Led by egocentric Captain Qwark, the rangers protect peace and order in the galaxy, and they need to do just that as baddie Chairman Drek has created the Deplanitizer to blow up planets along with criminal mastermind Dr Nefarious. After a few convoluted plot twists, Ratchet and his new friend Clank get to join the Rangers and speed off to save the next planet under threat.

Unfortunately, only very young viewers will manage to stay awake during the duo’s rather tedious adventures, which will remind older viewers of the better movies it copies. While it is well made with some nice celebrity voices, there is nothing new or original here, and it’s more suited to a Saturday morning in front of the TV than a big cinema screen.
