Ducktales: The Movie - Treasure Of The Lost Lamp

Ducktales: The Movie - Treasure Of The Lost Lamp

Voices by Alan Young, Russi Taylor. (U)

Those adorable ducks Huey, Dewey and Louie, along with their uncle Scrooge McDuck, get their own Indiana Jones-meets-Aladdin adventure in this animated film based on the toddlers’ TV series DuckTales. Unlike many movies based on twenty-minute TV shows, this actually has a well-developed plot that speeds by as Scrooge (Young) searches for the lost treasure of Collie Baba with the help of his cheeky nephews, pal Webby (all voiced by Taylor) and dashing pilot Launchpad McQuack (Terence McGovern). Unfortunately, when they find it, they soon lose it to evil magician Merlock (Christopher Lloyd) and find themselves with only a battered old lamp instead – which, of course, hides a wish-granting genie (Rip Taylor).

It’s a rip-roaring adventure ideal for tots too young to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Mummy that’s packed with caverns, booby traps, chases and smart, funny dialogue. Sadly, a sequel was never made, though there are spin-off computer games including DuckTales: The Quest for Gold for kids who enjoy the movie.
