Delinquents, The

(1989)
Delinquents, The

Starring Kylie Minogue, Charlie Schlatter. (15)

Wanting to sex up her goody two-shoes image post-Neighbours (and before she became one of the biggest-selling female singers thanks to some raunchy music videos), Kylie Minogue took on the lead role in this Rebel Without a Cause wannabe set in 1950s Australia. She stars as Lola, who has the hots for young Brownie (Schlatter). Trouble is, they are both under age and have hideous parents, so they have to risk everything to be together alone in the big city. (More traumatic perhaps is Kylie’s bleach-blonde hair in the movie’s second half – scary.)

It’s terribly soapy stuff, performed by two unconvincing leads, and it’s littered with every troubled-teen cliché you can think of. In fact, it’s truly abysmal, and only a fevered Kylie fan should attempt to sit through it without sniggering or throwing something at the TV in disgust.
