Enchanted

(2007)
Enchanted

Starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Susan Sarandon. (PG)

Disney has always been known for their luscious fairytales (Cinderella, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Beauty And The Beast to name just a few), and with Enchanted they delivered another one that should delight little girls while also appealing to grown-up ones, too.

In an animated, fairytale land, Giselle (Adams) is a typical pretty girl who lives in the forest with her animal friends and dreams of meeting a handsome prince. He comes along in the form of the cute-but-dim Prince Edward (James Marsden), but just before they are due to marry, Edward's wicked stepmother Queen Narissa (a deliciously diabolical Sarandon) sends poor Giselle plummeting into a deep well. At the bottom, Giselle climbs out, only to find herself in scary, loud (and live action) New York – and she's no longer animated, she's human, too.

Luckily there's a hunky divorce lawyer (Dempsey) to help our damsel in distress, but will she find her Prince in time? Or will his evil stepmother and her bumbling henchman Nathaniel (Timothy Spall) get there first? A delightful, funny mix of animation and live action, this is another classic family movie from Disney with an adorable central performance from Adams as the naive girl trapped in one of the world's most cynical cities.

SCARY MOMENTS:

Younger viewers (under 8s) may find Nathaniel a bit creepy to begin with, and Narissa is quite scary when she is flesh and blood (as opposed to animated).

SPOILER! It is also quite scary near the end when Narissa turns into a huge dragon.
