The Faculty

The Faculty

Starring Jordana Brewster, Elijah Wood, Famke Janssen, Robert Patrick. (15)

A daft, flashy teen horror comedy that’s a cross between Species, Invasion of the Bodysnatchers and Scream (hardly surprising when you realise the author is Scream/Scream 2’s Kevin Williamson). A group of high-school kids begin to believe what we have all suspected is true – their teachers have actually been taken over by aliens. It’s up to them to put a stop to it before the whole school – and the town – is taken over, but how can they tell who has an alien inside them (cue a ‘testing’ scene very similar to the one in John Carpenter’s The Thing) and who hasn’t?

Filled with some corking special effects (including a great decapitation, if you like that sort of thing) and fast one-liners, this is utterly silly, but also completely enjoyable. Do note, however, that there are some horror moments, so this is really only suitable for older teens.

SCARY MOMENTS:

As noted above, this is a horror movie, aimed at kids over 15. There’s a decapitation, a stabbing with a syringe, and the alien when it is revealed is pretty nasty.
