I'll Be Home For Christmas

Starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Jessica Biel. (PG)

College guy Jake (Taylor Thomas) finds the true meaning of Christmas after he is dumped in the desert as a practical joke and has to make his way across country to be reunited with his family and girlfriend in New York. There’s an added bonus if he makes the celebrations too – Dad (Gary Cole) so wants the family to be together for the holidays, he has bribed his errant son with the promise of a shiny red Porsche. Doesn’t that just warm your heart?

A sort of kiddie version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (but sadly lacking the comedic talent of a Steve Martin or John Candy), this falls apart thanks to an unlikeable lead character and a series of implausible situations. Preteens may have a few giggles at the daftness of it all but you’ll have had to have had a lot of Christmas spirit to really enjoy this lacklustre movie.
