Jack Frost

(1998)
Jack Frost

Starring Michael Keaton, Joseph Cross. (PG)

A sweet, old-fashioned (yes, okay, it’s also a bit lame) Christmas film, this stars Keaton as Jack Frost, a rock singer with a wife (Kelly Preston) and child (Cross) whose music career is on the verge of hitting the big time. That’s why he spends so much time away from home, to the annoyance of son Charlie, but Jack intends to spend Christmas with his family – until his car goes off the road in a snowstorm and he’s killed. A year later, Charlie builds a snowman in the driveway and when he blows the harmonica which his dad claimed was ‘magic’, lo and behold, the pile of snow comes alive and Jack finds himself reincarnated as a snowman.

Cute stuff for preteens (with a Hanson and Spice Girls-peppered soundtrack that dates it somewhat), and thanks to a fun vocal performance from Keaton in snowman-mode, not a bad afternoon’s viewing for adults either.
