Jetsons: The Movie

Jetsons: The Movie

Voices by Mel Blanc, George O’Hanlon. (U)

Devised by Hanna-Barbera as a space-age twist on their own stone-age success, The Flintstones, The Jetsons ran for a year in 1962 and then was briefly resurrected in the mid-eighties. While it never had the success of its predecessor, The Jetsons did develop something of a cult following, which perhaps explains why an animated movie of such a short-lived show was made in 1990.

Husband and wife George and Jane Jetson and their kids Judy and Elroy live in futuristic Orbit City, but when George is promoted, he’s relocated to a factory on another planet and his family have to go along, too. There’s a plot twist that involves dumber-than-dumb George becoming a pawn in his boss’s game, and some teddy bear-like creatures whose existence is threatened by the factory, but none of it will impress sophisticated kids, who expect more cunning plot twists like those you would find in Monsters, Inc. Utterly forgettable.
