One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing

Starring Peter Ustinov, Helen Hayes, Derek Nimmo. (U)

A good old-fashioned British caper movie, this is an entertaining romp for the family. Lord Southmere (Nimmo) escapes from China with a valuable microfilm, and while evading the bad guys he hides it in the bones of one of the dinosaurs on display at London’s Natural History Museum. He’s been followed, however, so when he bumps into his old nanny, Hettie (Hayes), he asks her to retrieve it before the Chinese spies (led by Ustinov) get hold of it.

Worth watching for the bizarre sight of a dinosaur being transported by Hettie and her nanny pals while being chased by the baddies, this is enjoyably slapstick stuff (if you can get past the caricatures – the nannies are prim, the Chinese are evil… oops) from director Robert Stevenson, who also made family favourites Mary Poppins, That Darn Cat! and The Love Bug
