The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader

(2010)
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader

Starring Georgie Henley, Ben Barnes, Will Poulter. (PG)

The third movie instalment based on CS Lewis's Chronicles Of Narnia, this one has a different feel to it, thanks in part to a new movie studio releasing it (Fox instead of Disney) and a new director (Michael Apted taking over from Andrew Adamson). And while the first film, The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, remains the best of the movies so far, this one comes a close second thanks to some impressive special effects and a fun adventure at its centre, too.

Younger Pevensie siblings Lucy (Henley) and Edmund (Skandar Keynes) find themselves aboard the Dawn Treader ship with their (very) annoying cousin Eustace (Poulter) after they are rescued from Narnian seas by Caspian (Barnes). It seems Narnia is being threatened by evil forces, and they're soon off on another fantastical adventure involving a rat named Reepicheep (voiced by Simon Pegg), sea monsters and many other figments of CS Lewis's imagination.

It all romps along quite nicely, and while packing much adventure into less than two hours makes it feel somewhat episodic, this is nonetheless a nice addition to the Narnia movies that should enthrall kids who liked the first two instalments.

SCARY MOMENTS:

Younger viewers will be scared by some of the creatures in the movie, especially the sea monster. They may also be frightened when one of the characters becomes a dragon.
