My Little Pony: The Movie

My Little Pony: The Movie

Voices by Danny DeVito, Cloris Leachman. (U)

Parents who find the Care Bears sickly sweet will gag on this far more sugary adventure featuring those ‘loveable’ (apparently) little ponies. The brightly coloured animals live in Ponyland and are preparing for their annual Spring Festival. But evil witch Hydia, who lives in the Volcano of Doom, has had enough of the ponies’ happiness, and decides to cover their pretty Dream Valley in some gunk called Smooze.

It’s all pretty nauseating for anyone over the age of four, but little girls who like ponies may think it’s cute, and there’s nothing in the film that should scare even the most nervous of small viewers. Anyone older, however, will find the animation dull (a bit sloppy too – some of the ponies change from their original colour!) and the characters annoying – especially the pony named Baby Lickety Split.
