The Mummy Returns

The Mummy Returns

Starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz. (12)

The title says it all, really. Rick (Fraser) and Evelyn (Weisz) are now married with a young son, Alex (Freddie Boath), but that doesn’t stop them going on adventures looking for ancient artefacts. Unfortunately, the Mummy Imhotep whom they thought they had vanquished in Part One is back too, and he kidnaps their boy, sending the pair off in hot pursuit.

This time around, the story is a bit weak – some nonsense about Evelyn being the reincarnation of Nefertiti – but there is plenty of action and some nifty battle scenes featuring the Scorpion King (played by The Rock, who later starred in a spin-off action movie) as well as impressive set pieces featuring a gold pyramid and a flying galleon. Another rip-roaring adventure.

Children over 12 should be fine, but note that scenes include a woman being eaten by beetles.

Imhotep can suck off people’s skin, and the pygmies may frighten younger viewers.
