Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

(1983)
Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

Starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher. (U)

The cuddliest of all the Star Wars movies – this one is a favourite among younger viewers for the cute ’n’ furry Ewoks (basically, child-size teddy bears) who populate the planet of Endor. It’s there, after a fun rescue on Tattooine, that Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia (along with, of course, trusty companions R2-D2, C-3PO and Chewbacca) start their adventures this time around, in their latest battle against the evil Empire and super bad guys Darth Vader and the Emperor.

While Han and Leia get friendly with the Ewoks on the forest planet (and, although many Star Wars fans scoff at them, you can’t deny they’re huggable fuzzy creatures – awww), Luke flies off for another chat with Jedi Master Yoda before his ultimate confrontation with his dad. All the loose ends are tied up a bit too sweetly by the end credits, but nonetheless this is a better Star Wars movie than, say, the dull The Phantom Menace or computer-game-like Attack of the Clones. So there.

(Fact fans should note this was originally called Revenge of the Jedi, until George Lucas decided those good-guy, Force-using Jedi knights cannot seek revenge.)

SCARY MOMENTS:

The early scenes on Tattooine have a few scary moments, especially at the Sarlacc pit.
