Surf's Up

(2007)
Surf's Up

Voices by Shia LaBeouf, Jeff Bridges. (PG)

After March Of The Penguins, Happy Feet, and the penguin bits of Madagascar, you may think you've had enough of movies featuring our flippered friends. But this cute animated comedy – about penguins who compete in an annual surfing competition – is a treat, as cocky young Cody (LaBeouf, star of Transformers and Harrison Ford's sidekick in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull) bonds with a washed up surfer (Bridges, naturally) as he trains for the big day.

Filmed as a mockmentary, it’s packed with laughs and even a moral (winning isn’t everything, also trotted out for Pixar’s Cars) for the kids, while adults will chortle at James Woods’ perfect vocal performance as a bonkers surf promoter.

Totally awesome, dude.
