Tales Of Beatrix Potter

(1971)
Tales Of Beatrix Potter

Starring Frederick Ashton, Alexander Grant, Wayne Sleep. (U)

Perfect for little girls who love ballet and cute furry animals, this dance adaptation of Beatrix Potter's well-known, and well-loved stories was written and choreographed by the Royal Ballet's Sir Frederick Ashton, and first performed for the movie (note - the Royal Ballet now performs it on stage each Christmas, a lovely treat if your little one falls in love with the film). Filled with everyone's favourite Potter characters – Miss Tiggywinkle, Jemima Puddleduck, Squirrel Nutkin and Mr Jeremy Fisher among them – this features five of the best known stories turned into dance, with the ballet dancers dressed up as the characters.

Of course, for many kids raised on Hannah Montana, The Gruffalo and Tangled, both Beatrix's stories and ballet itself may seem a bit old fashioned. But for those who like something a little different, this is lovely stuff, with each of Potter's stories told with no dialogue at all, just using lovely music and choreography.
