Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules

(2011)
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules

Starring Zachary Gordon, Devon Bostick, Robert Capron. (U)

Following on from the success of 2010's Diary Of A Wimpy Kid comes this second cute but forgettable installment based on the Jeff Kinney books of the same name. Greg (Gordon) is now in seventh grade, and nursing a crush on a new girl at his middle school. He's also still being tormented by his older brother Rodrick (Bostick), who suggests they have a party the moment their trusting parents go out of town.

The slight plot goes everywhere you'd expect, but there are some nice gags and performances, most notably from Bostick and Steve Zahn as the boys' dad. It's inoffensive fare for tweenie boys, and while it doesn't capture the sheer hilarity of the Kinney books, both kids and accompanying adults are sure to have a few chuckles.
