Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

(2011)
Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

Starring Jason Lee. Voices by Justin Long, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris. (U)

The third Alvin And The Chipmunks movie delivers more of the same for fans of the little singing chipmunks Alvin, Theodore and Simon, and their furry gal pals the Chipettes. The CGI squirrels live with poor old Dave (Lee), wearing him out with their various cheeky antics, so he decides to take a cruise and takes the six chipmunks along with him. Bad idea. When Alvin decides to try a bit of hang-gliding on the deck, the woodland creatures end up flying over the side and landing on a tropical island, leaving Dave to try and rescue them.

It’s all fairly cute stuff for little ones, with the chipmunks’ island adventures mixed in with catchy little song and dance numbers (parents may not be thrilled to watch the critters racy dance moves to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, however). Accompanying adults may grind their teeth at the rather dated references to Lost, Titanic and Castaway, but there’s nothing here to offend or scare tiny viewers, so it’s a fair choice if you think your kids are too young for other junior movies like Puss In Boots but you want them to see something on the big screen.
