Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

Starring Zachary Gordon, Steve Zahn, Devon Bostick, Rachael Harris. (U)

The third movie to be based on Jeff Kinney’s books (this one is actually based on two – Dog Days and The Last Straw) – this family comedy follows Greg (Gordon), now a hormonal teenager, as he plans what he is going to do during the school summer holidays. Unfortunately, dad (Zahn) has plans of his own that involve family trips in the great outdoors, and which don’t tie in too well with Greg’s ideas on how to romance pretty girl Holly at the local country club.

It’s pretty standard stuff that won’t offend or particularly excite anyone, but it’s done smartly by a cast that fit the roles well. Gordon is enjoyable as Greg, Devon Bostick a treat as brother Rodrick and best of all, this third movie gives us more of Zahn as their overly enthusiastic dad. Forgettable but cute – and far more fun than 2011’s mean old Horrid Henry.
