The Odd Life Of Timothy Green

The Odd Life Of Timothy Green

Starring Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, CJ Adams. (U)

An old-fashioned family weepy from Disney, this is the story of a married couple (Garner and Edgerton) who find out they can't have children, so plant a box in their garden describing the perfect child they had imagined having. One magical thunderstorm later and they wake up in the night to find a muddy 10-year-old boy (Adams) in their kitchen – gosh, where did he come from? And what are those strange green leaves that he's hiding down his socks?

Engineered to have you sniffling throughout, this is a little mawkish in places but, overall, is pretty cute and benefits from nice performances from the leads and the supporting cast of small-town oddballs that young Timothy comes into contact with (and, of course, touches with his innocent ways). Definitely not a movie for cynics, who would question why two people take in an odd boy in the middle of the night rather than call the police, this is for one for grown-ups who sobbed openly during Field Of Dreams and the flashback sequences in Up, and kids who would like a live action fairy story instead of an animated one for a change.
